Adams drives in two runs as Blue Demons drop rubber match

CHICAGO – DePaul dropped its season finale on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-3 to Creighton in the rubber match of the three-game series in Omaha.

Sophomore outfielder Jolie Adams paced the Blue Demons offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Senior Bibianna Rodriguez also recorded a pair of hits, while pinch hitter Addi Burdick drove in DePaul's third run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

DePaul used four pitchers in the series finale. Senior Bella Nigey earned the start, tossing 0.2 innings before Hannah Messer entered in relief. Messer worked 1.1 innings, followed by Gwen Baker, who recorded 1.0 inning. Senior Kelly Greene took over in the fourth inning and finished the final 3.0 frames.

How It Happened
DePaul (20-30, 8-16 BIG EAST) came out swinging, opening the game with three consecutive singles from Alexis Houge, Morgan Rogers, and Adams to load the bases with no outs, but the Blue Demons were unable to capitalize on the early opportunity.

Creighton (29-25, 17-7 BIG EAST) answered with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Blue Demons responded in the top of the second. Rodriguez and Katie Borges each singled before Rogers drew a walk to load the bases with two outs. Adams then lined a single down the left field line, plating two runs and trimming the deficit to 3-2.

The Bluejays answered back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring twice to push their advantage to 5-2. Creighton added two more runs on a home run in the third to extend the lead to 7-2.

DePaul's offense broke through again in the sixth inning. Kali Blount led off with a double, and Rodriguez followed with a single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Burdick then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Blount and cutting the deficit to 7-3.

Creighton responded with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to 9-3, sealing the series victory.
