Former All-BIG EAST standout returns to Chicago after four seasons at Stony Brook
CHICAGO — DePaul softball head coach Liz Bouck-Jagielski announced the addition of Sabrina Kuchta as an assistant coach for the Blue Demons, bringing the former All-BIG EAST catcher back to her alma mater.
Kuchta returns to DePaul after four seasons as an assistant coach at Stony Brook. She helped the Seawolves post 110 wins and CAA Championship berths in each of her seasons with the program, tutoring 12 All-Conference selections along the way. At DePaul, she will serve as hitting coach, leading the development of the Blue Demons' offense. Before joining Stony Brook's staff in 2023, she spent six years as a head coach in the Premier Girls Fastpitch organization and has coached at the club level since 2014, helping more than 50 athletes earn college softball commitments.
"Sabrina embodies everything we're looking for in a coach," Bouck-Jagielski said. "She's a former alumna who understands what it takes to compete at a high level, and we're excited to have her back in our dugout. Her aggressive approach at the plate and ability to connect with our catchers and hitters will help elevate our program, and we're confident she'll make a lasting impact on our student-athletes."
For Kuchta, the move is a homecoming in every sense.
"Returning to my alma mater is a true full-circle moment, and I am incredibly honored and humbled to step into this new role," Kuchta said. "DePaul University and this softball program shaped who I am today — not just as an athlete, but as a person. I know firsthand the dedication, grit, and pride it takes to wear the uniform, and I look forward to instilling those same values in our current and future student-athletes. I want to thank the administration and Liz Bouck-Jagielski for giving me this opportunity to give back to the program that gave me so much. To the alumni, the fans, and the community: I am ready to give everything I have to this university. It's good to be home, and I can't wait to get to work. Go Blue Demons!"
Kuchta starred as a catcher at DePaul from 2015 to 2019, earning a spot on the 2015 All-BIG EAST Second Team as a true freshman. She played a key role in three straight BIG EAST Championships from 2017 to 2019, including driving in two runs to clinch the 2017 title over St. John's. Over her five-year career, Kuchta helped DePaul claim three BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles and made three NCAA Tournament appearances, all while earning BIG EAST All-Academic honors in each of her five seasons.
A native of Darien, Illinois, Kuchta earned her bachelor's degree in sociology and psychology and her master's degree in marketing, both from DePaul.
