Bedwell, Hernandez and Flowers net goals in 43rd iteration of Red Line Rivalry

CHICAGO – After facing a two-goal first-half deficit, DePaul men's soccer battled back to draw with Loyola Chicago 3-3 at Loyola Soccer Park Sunday evening. The latest iteration of the Red Line Rivalry was nothing short of entertaining in the 43rd meeting between the two programs.

After a slow start for the Blue Demons in which Loyola capitalized, DePaul turned the tide and played on the front foot in the late stages of the first half and never let up, holding a 20-12 advantage in shots and 6-3 edge in corner-kick opportunities.

Three different Blue Demons found the back of the net with goals coming from Quinn Bedwell, Noeh Hernandez and Tyler Flowers. Junior forward Daniel Hickiewicz added two assists on the night, pushing his total to four on the season.

How It Happened
The Ramblers' early pressure prompted a Blue Demons foul inside the box and ultimately a converted penalty kick to make it a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute.

Loyola extended its lead in the 28th minute, as a long goal kick was flicked into the attacking third, drawing goalkeeper Chance Johnson out and finishing in the open net and making it 2-0.

The Blue Demons turned up the pressure in the final 10 of the first half, with Bedwell firing on frame before DePaul earned a trio of corners in quick succession.

After knocking on the door, DePaul broke through in the 42nd minute with Bedwell firing through the Ramblers' back line on a ball laid off by Hickiewicz.

DePaul made a goal-line stand in the final seconds of the first 45 to keep it a one-goal affair, 2-1.

After 45 minutes, the Blue Demons held a 9-6 edge in shots in addition to a 4-3 margin in corner kicks.

DePaul (1-1-2) equalized in the 55th minute on a full-field effort as Scott Godden won the ball deep in the Ramblers' box and played it upfield for Keagan Pace to touch on to Hickiewicz and across the field for Hernandez to take a pair of touches and bury his third goal of the season in the far corner.

Loyola (2-0-2) reclaimed the lead in the 82nd minute as a DePaul clearance didn't make it outside of the box for the Ramblers to clean up and convert, jumping in front, 3-2.

Seventy seconds later, the Blue Demons drew level once again with Hernandez playing the ball in on a corner, finding Flowers' feet for him to take a touch and bury it from downtown to even the score, 3-3.

Match Notes

Freshman forward Quinn Bedwell was credited with his first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute.
Daniel Hickiewicz is up to four assists on the season with two helpers against the Ramblers.
Noeh Hernandez scored his third goal this season and as many in the last two matches. The senior has 19 on his career.
Tyler Flowers netted the third goal of his career and first in the 2026 campaign.
Hernandez's 50 points on his career are good for 10th on DePaul's all-time points list.
Senior forward Keagan Pace made his season debut Sunday night.
Mason Kutch made the first start of his collegiate career against Loyola Chicago.
