Men’s Soccer Hosts Chicago State on Alumni Day Sunday

Kickoff set for 3 p.m. from Wish Field
CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer continues its non-conference slate when Chicago State visits Wish Field Sunday, Sept. 6, on the program's alumni day. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. with the action broadcast live on ESPN+. Admission is free to all soccer matches in Lincoln Park.
Demon Doings
The Blue Demons return to the pitch for the first time in a week after Thursday's match at UIC was postponed. Through the first two weeks of the season, DePaul is 1-1-2 on the 2026 campaign and hopes to remain perfect at home in Sunday's clash with the Cougars.
Last time out, DePaul battled back from a two-goal deficit to draw, 3-3, on the road at Loyola Soccer Complex Sunday night. After the Ramblers came out on the front foot, DePaul got a goal back in the closing moments of the first half off the boot of freshman Quinn Bedwell before Noeh Hernandez equalized in the 55th minute. Loyola reclaimed the lead in the 82nd minute, but the Blue Demons answered right back in the 83rd on a laser of a goal from Tyler Flowers.
Ten different Blue Demons have had goal involvement, with Hernandez headlining the offensive attack with three goals and an assist. Freshman forward Mason Kutch has a pair of goals and an assist to his credit, while junior midfielder Daniel Hickiewicz owns four assists through the first four matches of the season, a figure good for third in Division I.
DePaul's 12 assists this season rank 18th nationally.
Climbing the Ladder
After netting a goal against the Ramblers a week ago, Hernandez moved to 10th all-time on DePaul's career points list. The senior owns 50 points in his 50 appearances for the Blue Demons. Hernandez has scored 19 goals and dished out 12 assists during his time in Lincoln Park and needs three points to tie Antonio Aguilar (2009-12) for ninth in the record book.
Scouting Chicago State
The Cougars are 0-4 on the season heading into Sunday's match after a 5-0 loss at Missouri State Aug. 30. Senior defender Alex Mutalibov is one of two goal scorers for Chicago State this season while also leading the program in shots. Through the first four games of the season, opponents are averaging 25.0 shots per game while holding the Cougars to 3.8 attempts per outing. Norris Howze is in his fifth season leading the Chicago State program.
Series Stuff
Sunday's matchup is just the fifth meeting between the two programs, but the second-straight year the teams will meet. The Blue Demons are 3-0-1 against the Cougars dating back to the first contest between the two sides in September of 1985.
A season ago, DePaul claimed a 2-1 victory at Wish Field with all three goals coming in the first 30 minutes of the match. Keagan Pace opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Chicago State equalized six minutes later. The Blue Demons won the game on a converted penalty kick off the boot of Luca Iaccino in the 30th minute. DePaul held a 21-4 edge in shots on the match while owning a 13-0 edge in corner kicks.
