Senior goalkeeper's four saves at UIC earn conference recognition
CHICAGO — Goalkeeper Mason Hillery's lockdown performance between the posts at UIC this week earned the senior BIG EAST Player of the Week honor roll recognition, the first acknowledgment of her career.
The Illinois native recorded her fourth career clean sheet with the 1-0 victory at Flames Field. After the Blue Demons scored in the 16th minute, the remaining 74 minutes of the match required Hillery to deny four UIC shot attempts.
In the 20th minute, the senior rerouted a UIC shot attempt from the perimeter of the 18-yard box with a diving save. Less than a minute later, Hillery got her hands on a bouncing ball toward goal, keeping the score firmly at 1-0 in favor of DePaul.
Hillery then maintained composure in the chaos of the 85th minute on a UIC corner kick attempt. Locating a UIC corner kick attempt through heavy traffic, Hillery snatched the ball as it bounced dangerously close to the goal line, preserving the Blue Demons' victory.
This season, Hillery has spent every minute between the goalposts, racking up nine saves and earning two shutouts.
