Tim Anderson
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Tim Anderson concluded his third season on the DePaul staff as an assistant coach in 2019-20 after the Chicago native joined the program in August 2017. In his three seasons with the program the Blue Demons have totaled the most victories and made the first postseason appearance since the 2006-07 season. Additionally, the staff put together a top 25 recruiting class that arrived on campus starting with the 2019-20 season.
DePaul's 35 wins over the last two seasons are the most in back-to-back seasons since 42 total victories in 2003-04 and 2004-05.Â
The 2019-20 campaign opened with a 12-1 start for the best non-conference record since the Blue Demons joined the Great Midwest Conference in 1991. The 86-65 win over UIC on Dec. 14 marked the first time since the 1999-00 season that a DePaul team won at least 10 games in a season before Jan. 1.
Â
Overall, the Blue Demons recorded six wins against teams ranked as a Quad 1 opponent in the NET making DePaul one of just 23 programs in the country to record at least six Q1 wins during the 2019-20 season. The Blue Demons were one of six BIG EAST programs on the 23-team list while the league was the top-ranked conference in the country.
Paul Reed was a second team All-BIG EAST selection and Romeo Weems was voted to the league's All-Freshman Team.
The 2018-19 team posted 19 victories and advanced to the finals of the College Basketball Invitational while Reed was named the BIG EAST's Most Improved Player and Max Strus earned second team All-BIG EAST honors. Other highlights of the 2018-19 season were 16 home victories and a decisive road win at No. 24/23 St. John's. The 16 home wins marked just the fifth season in program history that a DePaul team won 16 or more home games.
Anderson attended and later coached at Crane High School and was an assistant coach in the collegiate ranks at UT-Pan American (now UT-Rio Grande Valley) from 2011-13. Prior to his first stint as a collegiate assistant coach, Anderson led Crane to a resurgence with three IHSA appearances in just three years including two Sweet 16 appearances and one Elite 8 appearance and totaled a head coaching record of 63-24.
Known as one of the top basketball trainers in the nation, most recently he worked with the Nike EYBL's MeanStreets AAU program while also training the nation's top players at the high school, collegiate and professional levels as founder of Ground Zero Training. Six players were selected in the 2017 NBA Draft that worked under Anderson and Ground Zero, and in the last four years a total of 21 NBA selections have prepped for the draft with GZT.
Anderson was a student-athlete at Oklahoma Panhandle State University where was named All-Heartland Conference honorable mention after his senior season. Following graduation in May 2006, he was associate head coach at OPSU for one season before returning to Chicago as an assistant coach at Malcolm X College.
