A former standout at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina, Marketa Placha joined the Blue Demons squad as a Graduate Assistant coach for the 2015-16 campaign.

From 2012-2015, the Czech native held the No. 1 spot singles spot for Charleston Southern, helping her team to a conference championship in 2012 and 2014.

Placha heralded duties as a captain for the Buccaneers for 2014-15 season. She was named Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015 and the 2015 Female Athlete of the Year by the Big South Conference to cap her collegiate career.

Prior to Charleston Southern, Placha played for a year at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Placha graduated from Charleston Southern in May of 2015 with a Bachelors in Business Administration and is pursuing an MBA at DePaul. She is the daughter of Josef Plachy and Marketa Placha and has one sister, Andrea, who also plays tennis and was a former figure skater.
