ROSEMONT, Ill. – The home opener was a sweet one.
Imari Sawyer dished out school record 17 assists and Andre Brown scored 20 points to lead DePaul to a 107-69 rout of Youngstown State in the home opener at the Allstate Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The old assist record was set by Kenny Patterson, who posted 15 against Syracuse in the opening round of the 1985 NCAA tournament. Sawyer's previous high was 12 in last year’s win at Saint Louis.
The Blue Demons as a team set school records by hitting 15 three-point field goals and shooting .625 from behind the three-point arc.
Sawyer added 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting as DePaul (2-1) won its 13th consecutive home opener. He also had five rebounds and five turnovers in 28 minutes.
Ryan Patton led Youngstown State (1-2) with 17 points.
Sam Hoskin scored 14 points and Lance Williams added 12 with 14 rebounds as the Blue Demons shot 66 percent from the field.
Every DePaul player who saw action scored as the Blue Demons scored their most points since getting 114 on American University-Puerto Rico in 1999. The win was also the biggest non-conference margin of victory since DePaul pasted Chicago State 104-57 on December 1, 1999.
Blue Demon freshman LeVar Seals dressed but was held out of the game due to an ankle injury.
DePaul will be in action again on Saturday when they face Notre Dame at the United Center. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m.
