Wisconsin Turns Table On Men's Tennis

MADISON, WIS. (Feb. 2) - The men's tennis team topped Wisconsin a year ago and the Badgers returned the favor Feb. 1. Wisconsin downed the 66th-ranked Blue Demons 6-1 in a tight meet that saw three matches extended to three sets.
The final team score doesn't show how tight this meet actually turned out. The margin was a result of the Badgers taking advantage of each crucial point in tight matches. Jevegnij Cariov, the Blue Demons' number one singles player and 85th ranked player in the nation, characterized the difficulty the team had closing the door when opportunity arose. Cariov dropped his first game 4-6, but won game two 6-2 and led 4-3 in the third before falling to Danny Westerman 6-4.
The Blue Demons were swept in the doubles matches as well, but two of those were lost 8-6.
The team's record now stands at 1-3 as they prepare to travel to Bloomington, Ind. for a triangular meet with Kentucky and Indiana.
