DePaul Rolls Over Southern Miss

CHICAGO - The DePaul women's basketball team improved to 6-1 in Conference USA play with a convincing 100-72 win over Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon. Lenae Williams led five players in double-figures with 31 points while DePaul (13-7, 6-1 C-USA) shot .541 from the field.
With the victory, DePaul equaled their best Conference USA start. The 1995-96 squad opened league play at 6-1 and finished with a 13-1 record.
DePaul started quickly, jumping to an 18-7 lead in the first six minutes of the game. Williams tallied nine points in the opening run before finishing the first half with 20 points. Southern Miss (9-11, 2-5 C-USA) saw DePaul score 22 points off 17 first-half turnovers while the Blue Demons built a 32-point lead at halftime, 55-23.
The second stanza saw the Blue Demons take their largest lead at 60-25 with 18:32 left in the game. From that point, Southern Miss outscored DePaul, 47-40, but the Golden Eagles could get no closer than 92-72 with just over two minutes left in the game.
Five Blue Demons finished the game in double-figures led by Williams' 31 points. Yolanda Lewis scored a career-high 18 points while Jenni Dant equaled her career high with 15 points. Claudette Towers came off the bench to score 11 and Sarah Kustok chipped in 10 points with a team-high eight rebounds.
As a team, DePaul reached the 100-point mark for the first time since the opening game at the DePaul Athletic Center. On Nov. 24, 2000, the Blue Demons defeated Morgan State, 103-47.
Up next, DePaul hosts the Marquette Golden Eagles for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, Feb. 3. The following weekend will see the Blue Demons travel to East Carolina and Charlotte.
