Blue Demons Top Louisville in Overtime

CHICAGO - DePaul used a school-record 15 three-pointers and a combined 52 points by Lenae Williams and Jenni Dant in their 83-81 overtime win over Louisville on Friday night. DePaul (15-9, 8-3 C-USA) came back from a 14-point deficit second-half deficit and forced the game to overtime on a Dant three-pointer. Williams dropped in 30 points, including DePaul's last six, while the freshman Dant scored a career-high 22 points.
DePaul led in the game just three times and their only lead in regulation occured on Dant's first three-pointer of the game to give the Blue Demons the early 7-4 advantage with 17:28 left in the first half. Louisville (15-10, 7-5 C-USA) came right back and took back the lead on a Marju Sober jumper that put the Cardinals up, 10-9. DePaul didn't regain the lead for the rest of regulation and tied the score just twice.
Louisville extended their lead to nine on an Amanda Wolke layup with just over three minutes left before DePaul went on an 8-2 run. The run ended with a half-court buzzer-beater by Lindsay Forsberg to close the advantage to 38-35 in favor of the Cardinals.
The second half started with 24-13 Louisville run to give them their largest lead of the game at 62-48. DePaul closed the lead to four points on a Dant jumper, but the Cardinals ran it back up to nine at 72-63 with five minutes left. The Blue Demons used three three's by Laura Sobieszczcyk, Forsberg and Dant to outscore Louisville, 13-4, and send the game into overtime.
Neither team scored in overtime until LaKisha Hoffman's jumper with three minutes left on the clock. Hoffman led five Cardinals in double-figures with 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Dant tied the game with a pair of free throws before Williams took over and scored DePaul's final six points.
Jamie Smith finished the game with a career-high 12 rebounds while chipping in seven points. Sobieszczyk added 12 points on four three-pointers with a team-high five assists. Up next for DePaul is a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday afternoon against No. 25 Cincinnati.
