Blue Demons Down East Carolina in Doubleheader

Greenville, N.C.-The 16th-ranked DePaul softball team opened conference play with two wins against East Carolina. The Blue Demons rallied to win the first game 2-1 and pounded the Pirates 7-0 in the second game.
In game one, East Carolina grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning and held it going into the seventh inning. With Ashley Parker on first, Saskia Roberson hit a drive to left field. East Carolina left fielder Brand Benedict dropped the ball and Parker came around to tie the game at 1-1.
After holding the Pirates in the bottom of the seventh, the Blue Demons grabbed the lead in the eighth. Shavaughne Desecki drilled a double to center field scoring Sarah Martz. Starter Lindsay Chouinard held ECU in the bottom of the eighth wrapping up the Blue Demon victory.
Chouinard improved to 7-2 on the season. She allowed five hits with eight strike outs and one walk in her eighth complete game of the season.
Martz went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Desecki finished 1-for-4 driving in the game winner.
DePaul dominated game two. The Blue Demons started the scoring in the fourth scoring the first run of the game on an ECU error. The Demons added another run in the fifth when Gina Ramacci produced an RBI single and added five runs in the seventh sealing the game.
Sarah Martz improved to 4-1 tossing her third shutout of the season. She struck out eight batters, walked one and allowed five hits.
Ramacci finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored. Roberson added two hits with two RBI and one run scored and Liz Bouck finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Blue Demons now sit at 14-5 while East Carolina falls to 20-12 with a 2-3 mark in Conference USA. The teams complete the series tomorrow at noon.
