Blue Demons Take Two From Oakland

CHICAGO - Lindsay Chouinard and Sarah Martz combined to allow just one run as the DePaul softball team swept their Monday afternoon doubleheader against Oakland University. Chouinard tossed a five-hit shutout as the Blue Demons won the first game, 5-0. She then saved Martz's 4-1 victory with a scoreless seventh inning to improve DePaul's record to 38-8 on the season.
The first game saw the Blue Demons score single runs in the first, second and fifth innings before adding two in their final at bat. Christina and Sarah Douglas each went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run to lead the Blue Demons. Douglas also hit her fifth home run of the season for DePaul's first run. Chouinard fanned nine batters while allowing just one hit over the final three frames.
In the nightcap, the Blue Demons were held scoreless until their final at bat when they erupted for four runs. The sixth frame had DePaul those four runs on three hits including at towering three-run homer by Saskia Roberson to put the Blue Demons ahead for good. It was Roberson's fifth round-tripper of the season and knocked in April Valdez and Gina Ramacci.
Martz earned the win while allowing just two hits and a run over six innings. Chouinard picked up her fifth save of the season with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
Up next for the Blue Demons is a doubleheader against Illinois tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Wish Field.
