Softball Takes a Pair from Saint Louis

The Billikens jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game two with single tallies in the second and third innings.
In the fourth, DePaul stole a run cutting the lead in half. With runners on first and second, Shavaughne Desecki stole third. The next pitch the Blue Demons pulled off a double steal with Jenny Doezie taking second and Desecki stealing home.The Blue Demons captured the lead with a three-run fifth. April Valdez and Ashley Parker led off the inning with singles. Lindsay Chouinard moved the runners along with a sacrifice bunt setting the table for Liz Bouck, who produced an RBI single. Bouck was tagged out after rounding first base, but stayed in a rundown long enough allowing Parker to score and giving DePaul the lead. Sarah Martz followed with a double to center. After stealing third, she scored on a wild pitch.
Martz earned the win going five innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four. She improves to 6-2. Chouinard retired the final six batters picking up her second save of the season.Martz and Valdez finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and Bouck recorded the only Blue Demon RBI.
In the first game, Saint Louis again jumped out to an early lead. The Billikens pushed across an unearned run in the first taking a 1-0 lead. However, in the third, the Blue Demons took control. Bouck led off the inning with a single, stole second and came around on an error tying the game. After Martz was caught stealing, Valdez doubled to center field. Desecki drove her home with a single to right and Gina Ramacci drove her home with a double to deep center field. Sarah Douglas capped the scoring driving home Ramacci with a double to center field giving the Blue Demons a 4-1 lead.
After Saint Louis cut the Blue Demon lead in half with a run in the top half of the sixth, DePaul responded with an insurance run in the bottom half. Christina Douglas drove home Dana Kenney making the score 5-2.Chouinard picked up the victory improving to 12-2. She did not allow an earned run in seven innings walking one batter.
Desecki finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored and Ramacci went 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Martz and Katy Kukman finished 2-for-3.The Blue Demons sit at 21-6 this season and lead Conference USA with a 9-1 record. DePaul looks to pick up its eighth straight victory tomorrow against the Billikens. Game time has been moved up to 10:00 a.m. at Wish Field.
