Blue Demons Complete First Round at USF Invite

TAMPA, Fla. – The DePaul men’s golf team opened the spring season on Friday morning at the Dick Wittcoff/USF Invitational at the University of South Florida Golf Course in Tampa.
DePaul shot a combined 322 on day one and found themselves in the back of the pack. Scott Yopchick led the Blue Demons with an opening-round 77 and was in a group of nine players. He started the day with a 42 on the front nine before coming back and carding a 35 on the back.
Nathan Ruth opened the three-day event with a 79, which put him in a tie for 39th while Kyle Patterson was in a group at 49th with a score of 80. Josh Scarborough and Joe Hermes rounded out the DePaul scoring with an 86 and 89, respectively.
The second round of the tournament will be on Saturday with the third and final 18 slated for Sunday. South Alabama leads after the first round with a team total of 287 (+3) and is followed by Jacksonville State at 292 (+8) and Arkansas State with a 296 (+12). Matt Anderson of Florida Atlantic and South Alabama’s Ryan Gildersleeve lead with a pair of 2-under scores of 69.
