OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Amateur Softball Association announced today the 25 finalists for the 2003 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award. Among the elite is DePaul's Lindsay Chouinard.
The award is considered the most prestigious in women's collegiate softball and is the only national player of the year award. The list of 25 outstanding athletes will be reduced to 10Â players on April 29 and again to three on May 13. On May 21, the winner will be announced at the College World Series.
Chouinard, a senior from Fresno, Calif., boasts an ERA of 0.54. Her mark ranks third among the top 25 teams in the nation. She has tallied 100 strikeouts in 129 innings pitched and led her team to victories over national powerhouses UCLA and Nebraska.
Chouinard was previously recognized this year by the Amateur Softball Association when she was named USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week for her efforts over the week of March 10 through March 16.
