Greer Starts Hot, DePaul Finishes Off Flames

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Quemont Greer erupted for a career-high 32 points and led DePaul to an 80-62 come-from-behind victory Saturday over UIC at the Allstate Arena.
“I am proud of the guys for the way they stepped up in the second half,” DePaul coach Dave Leitao said. “With Drake (Diener) out of the line-up some other guys needed to elevate their play and that is what happened, especially in the second half. Quemont was tremendous in the first half but we had to get the others to join the party and that is what they did.”
Geer, who became the first DePaul player since Terry Cummings in 1981 to score 20 or more points in six consecutive games, had 20 of DePaul’s first 33 and the Blue Demons (6-3) trailed the Flames (3-5) 38-33 at intermission.
DePaul was down 40-33 when the Blue Demons went on a 10-2 run early in the second half, capped by Sammy Mejia's 3-pointer that gave DePaul a 43-42 lead with 16:05 left.
The Blue Demons extended their lead to 62-56 on Marlon Brumfield's 3-point play, which was set up by a nice pass from Cliff Clinkscales. The next time down, Clinkscales hit Greer with a perfect alleyoop pass for a dunk, increasing DePaul's lead to 64-56 with
Clinkscales hit LeVar Seals with another alleyoop pass to make it 76-60 with
Seals finished with 13 points, and Mejia had 11 points for DePaul. Clinkscales had a season-best 13 assists (with just one turnover) and seven points.
Elliot Poole had 16 points for UIC and Armond Williams scored 15 points with seven rebounds.
UIC led for nearly the entire first half, but Greer kept DePaul in the game with 20 first half points on 9-of-12 shooting. He scored 14 straight points for DePaul during a
DePaul's Drake Diener didn't play until the second half and was slowed by a sprained ankle which limited him to just two minutes of action.
The Blue Demons are off until December 30 when Rhode Island comes to the Allstate Arena for a 7:30 p.m. game on Comcast SportsNet and WCKG(105.9 FM).
