Softball Falls in the Opening Day of the UNLV Classic

HENDERSON, Nev. – The DePaul Blue Demon softball team struggled in its first day at the UNLV Classic, falling to two top 10 teams, No. 8 Nebraska and No. 1 UCLA. 

DePaul opened its season against No. 8 Nebraska.  The Blue Demons were scoreless in the first five innings before Nebraska’s pitcher, Peaches James, gave up DePaul’s only two runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning.  DePaul fell to Nebraska 10-2 in six innings.

In the second game of the day, DePaul looked to continue its victory run against No. 1 UCLA.  Last season the Blue Demons were successful in knocking off No.1 UCLA at the beginning of the season.  However the Bruins came out fighting and took the game insix innings, 10-2.  UCLA improved to 2-0 at the tournament and 6-0 for the season, while DePaul fell to 0-2.

The Blue Demons will be back in action this Saturday evening against No. 3 Cal and unranked Utah.  The first pitch will be thrown at 6:00 and 8:30 p.m.
