Softball Falls in the 10th and Ties in Nightcap

The Blue Demons (
DePaul put two runs on scoreboard in the first inning, off Saskia Roberson 31st career home run. Roberson two-run homer tied the DePaul record previously held by Karen Stewart (1996-1999). She plated Sarah Martz who had walked to begin the inning.
The Redbirds answered with its own two-run homer off the bat of Randi Patton, tying the score at two runs apiece in the bottom of the first.
Jenny Doezie singled stole second to start the Blue Demons on the base path in the bottom of the second inning. Doezie scored on an RBI single from Dana Kenney pulling DePaul ahead 3-2 at the end of two.
The score continued to flip flop as the Redbird’s Kate Stake hit a two-run home run in the top of third to put
DePaul again answered by adding three more to the scoreboard in the bottom of the third. Roberson walked to begin the inning and advanced to second on Christina Douglas’s single to left field. Jessica Evans plated both runners on a double followed by Sara Polensky single to left-center scored Evans from second. The Blue Demons pulled ahead of the
Redbirds 6-4.
Jessica Evans singled to left field to begin the fifth inning and was plated by a RBI double from Doezie.
Linda Secka doubled to begin the sixth inning and was later crossed the plate on an Ashley Parker sacrifice fly.
DePaul headed into the seventh inning with a four run lead that was erased by a fielders choice and three-run home run by Illinois State’s Emily Krueger. The score was tied at eight at the end of the seven inning.
Sarah Martz’s one-out triple sparked the Blue Demons offense. Roberson’s two-out single scored Martz. C. Douglas followed with a single but DePaul comeback efforts were halted as Katie Sheaks fouled out to the first baseman to end the game.
Shelia Emms recorded the win, while Martz recorded the loss.
As night began to fall in
The second game like the first was back and forth effort. DePaul put the first run on the board. Sarah Martz singled to start the game and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a pass ball. Roberson plated Martz on a sacrifice fly to center field.
Martz and Secka both connected on one outs doubles to start the third inning. Martz scored the Blue Demons only other run before the game was called on Secka’s hit.
The score remained at two when the game was called because of darkness. Leslie Scott got the start for the Blue Demons and Tracie Adix was called in for relief in the fourth inning.
