Ann Arbor, Mich. - The No. 5 seeded DePaul softball team arrived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, today in preparation for the NCAA Region No. 6 softball tournament set to begin Thursday morning. The Blue Demons will face No. 4 Notre Dame, Thursday at 3:00 p.m. EST at Alumni Field.
DePaul received Conference USA’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the conference tournament championship May 16, in Louisville. The Blue Demons defeated Houston 4-2, in the championship game. Sarah Martz was named the tournament MVP after pitching five complete games, including four wins and throwing 37 innings.
Coming into Thursday’s game the Blue Demons hold a 25-15-1 all-time series advantage over the Irish. The teams split a pair of games earlier in the season. DePaul edged Notre Dame, 3-1 in the first game and dropped the second game, 2-1 at Notre Dame on April 27.
DePaul has meet Notre Dame three times at the NCAA Regional. The Blue Demons hold a 2-1 series advantage including last years, 4-1 victory in Ann Arbor.
The Irish were the BIG EAST regular season champions and finished the regular season 48-18. They are led by Megan Ciolli and Heather Booth. Ciolli pilots the offense, batting .395 on the season. At the mound, Booth has a team low 1.35 ERA and is 24-8 on the season.
