CHICAGO- DePaul softball coach Eugene Lenti recently announced the hiring of former Blue Demon, Lindsay Chouinard. Chouinard a former All-American Pitcher and finalist for the Amateur Softball Association Player of the Year award in 2003, joins the Blue Demon staff as an assistant coach.
“Lindsay helped to lead the 2000 team to the College World Series and is known in the softball community as one of its premier athletes,” Lenti said. “She brings a winning attitude and degree of mental toughness that is hard to find. She will work with our pitching staff developing them both physically and mentally.”
Along with working with the pitchers, Chouinard will play a major role in recruiting and developing the Blue Demon defense.
After finishing a decorated college career, Chouinard was the second overall pick in the National Pro Fastpitch Softball League 2003 draft. Her team, the Texas Thunder finished the 2004 regular season in first place and advance to the Cowles Cup Championship. For the Thunder, Chouinard boasted a 1.06 ERA, with 46 strikeouts in 112.1 innings.
As a freshman, Chouinard led the Blue Demons to the College World Series. She picked up All-American honors while being named the NCAA Regional MVP, C-USA Freshman of the Year and named to the C-USA All-Tournament Team.
Chouinard continued her success on and off the field during the next three years, rendering her name nationally on two additional All-American teams (2002, 2003), and two Academic All-American (2002, 2003) rosters. In C-USA she was named Player of the Year (2003), twice the Pitcher of the Year (2002, 2003) and was named to the C-USA All-Tournament team her final three years.
Chouinard holds 12 of the 13 DePaul pitching records, including most wins with 108 and strikeouts with 858.
“Lindsay will be a great role-model to our student athletes. As an All-American and Academic All-American she knows and understands the challenges of dealing with a rigorous academic schedule and the demands of a Division I athlete,” Director of Athletics, Jean Lenti Ponsetto said. “Her fierce determination and motivation to be the best will be a great asset to our program.”
“I am excited for the opportunity to work with Coach Eugene Lenti and the DePaul softball program. I am honored to have the chance to give back to the program that gave me so much,” Chouinard said. “I am looking forward to the future of the program and want to continue to build it as a national powerhouse.”
