Blue Demons Run Home Streak to 17 Games

CHICAGO – The DePaul women’s basketball team continued their dominance on their home floor with a 99-58 win over visiting East Carolina on Friday night. Allie Quigley led six players in double-figures as the No. 21 Blue Demons won their 17th consecutive game at home.
The Blue Demons hit seven of their first eight shots to take a 16-6 lead on a three-pointer by Quigley. With just over 10 minutes left in the first half, Ciara Johnson found Caprice Smith under the basket with a nice pass to put DePaul up, 25-10.
Quigley’s second three-pointer of the first half gave the Blue Demons their largest lead of 29 points at the 4:58 mark. DePaul shot a sizzling .543 from the field and took a 50-29 advantage at the intermission. The 50 points marked the eighth time this season that the Blue Demons have tallied at least 50 in a half.
DePaul (12-3, 1-1 C-USA) scored seven of the first nine points of the second half and took a 59-31 lead on a pair of free throws by Khara Smith. The lead grew to as high as 41 points late in the second half with Caprice Smith’s lay-up serving as the final points in the 99-58 final.
The six players in double-figures were the first time since last season when six scored at least 10 in a 102-57 win over Southern Illinois on Dec. 14, 2003.
Quigley’s 16 points included a 4-of-4 effort from three-point range while Khara Smith added 13 points and four rebounds. Jenna Rubino added 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting while Jenni Dant tallied 12 points and four of DePaul’s 24 assists on the evening. Jarietta Benton rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. As a team, the Blue Demons combined for a season-high .571 field goal percentage.
Viola Cooper led East Carolina (6-10, 2-1 C-USA) with 12 points.
DePaul wraps up the Conference USA weekend with the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday afternoon. The 49ers are one of three teams still undefeated in league play after winning at Marquette, 60-54, on Friday night. Overall, Charlotte is 15-2 with a 3-0 mark in C-USA action.
