FULLERTON, Calif. - The DePaul softball team fell to No. 5 Michigan, 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the KIA Klassic Saturday evening. The Blue Demons finished the tournament 2-2 recording victories over Penn State and No. 18 Nebraska.
Blue Demon sophomore pitcher Megan Huitink (3-7) gave up just four hits, but one was a homerun in the bottom of the second inning. Michigan’s Nicole Motycka, sent Huitink pitch over the left field to give Wolverines (25-1) the eventual win. Huitink struck out nine batters and retired the Michigan line-up in order in the fourth and fifth innings.
DePaul (8-10) scattered three hits on the evening, Saskia Roberson, Kate Sheaks and Ashley Parker all singled.
The Blue Demons will open their final season in Conference USA this week, traveling to Houston and UAB. DePaul will face Houston on Tuesday and Wednesday at 4:00 and 1:00 (CST) respectively.
