CHICAGO – DePaul women’s basketball coach Doug Bruno announced today that Holly Medley of Bolingbrook High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Blue Demons next season. She joins Erin Catell of Orland Park, Ill., in the first recruiting class of the BIG EAST Conference era of women’s basketball at DePaul.
Medley, a 5-11 forward, led Bolingbrook to a 29-4 record and fourth-place finish at the Illinois state tournament. She averaged just over 16.5 points with 5.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game during the 2004-05 campaign while being named the Player of the Year by the Joliet Herald-News. She was also named a second team All-State honoree by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and will play in the IBCA All-Star Game on June 18. The McDonald’s All-American nominee was also a SICA North All-Conference selection and the MVP of the Plainfield Holiday Tournament.
“Holly Medley personifies DePaul women’s basketball. She is a true competitor and is very combative on both sides of the basketball as evidenced by Bolingbrook’s fourth-place finish in the Illinois state tournament,” said Bruno. “Holly is also a much better offensive player than she gets credit for. She is an excellent passer that can also nail the three-pointer. Holly Medley brings a work ethic that will definitely be contagious.”
DePaul joins the BIG EAST Conference next season after posting their third straight 20-win season and third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The Blue Demons went 26-5 in 2004-05 and won the program's second Conference USA Championship with a 13-1 league record.
