Blue Demons Down Penn State

GAINESVILLE, Fla – The No 21/21 DePaul softball team used a one-run third to down Penn State 1-0 in the final game of the GRU Florida Tournament.  The win improves the Blue Demons to 7-2 on the season, while it drops the Nittany Lions to 2-3.

Both pitchers threw an excellent game; but it was junior DePaul starter Tracie Adix (4-0), who kept her ERA at a perfect 0.00 as she allowed just two hits and fanned four batters in her third shut out of the season.  Missy Beseres took the loss for Penn State giving up just one Blue Demon hit and struck out five.

The Blue Demons posted the winning run in the third. Freshman Jackie Tarulli-Fisher led off the inning, connecting on DePaul's only hit of the game, a single up the middle.  Junior Cara Santori entered the game as a pinch runner for Tarulli-Fisher and scored on junior Kate Sheaks fielder choice.

Penn State would threaten to tie the game sixth as they had a runner in scoring position with one out, but Adix would strike out one batter and would get the final batter to ground out to end the Nittany Lion threat.

The Blue Demons return to action March 9 taking on Oregon State at the Fresno State Tournament in Fresno, California.  DePaul will also face host Fresno State, Washington, San Diego State, Ball State and Central Florida during the four-day tournament.
