Blue Demons Split First Day in Oregon

BYU 7, DePaul 5
The Blue Demons used a four run sixth to propel them to victory in the days first game. Down 1-0, DePaul loaded the bases on back-to-back-back singles. Junior Jessica Evans singled to the left side and advanced on freshman Amber Patton's perfectly placed bunt. Sophomore Sandy Vojik advance both runners on a single to right field and all runners crossed the plate on Kate Sheaks double to give the Blue Demons a 3-1 advantage. Sheaks crossed the plate one batter later on freshman Jackie Tarulli-Fisher's single.
The Cougars would cut the Blue Demon advantage to two in the top of the sixth on a Jodi Norton double.
Megan Huitink (5-3) registered the win for DePaul. The junior threw her eighth complete game of the season and struck out three batters, while giving up eight hits.
BYU's Summer Tobais (8-5) took the loss for the Cougars. She also threw a complete game and gave up eight hits.
In the second game of the afternoon, the Cougar's got the best of the Blue Demons as a seventh inning grand slam gave BYU a 7-5 victory.
The game was full of up and down scoring as each team took turns taking the lead from the other. The Blue Demons struck first, using a Cougar error to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
BYU took their run back in the third on Andrea Ramirez's double.
DePaul sophomore designated player Marcy Wilus' two-run home run in the fourth gave the Blue Demons breathing room; but the Cougars would tie the game at three, by adding a run in both the fifth and sixth innings.
The Blue Demons answered in the sixth, getting RBI doubles from Tarulli-Fisher and first baseman Sara Polensky to take a 5-3 advantage.
BYU loaded the bases on a double and two singles before Ashlyn Russel's connected on a grand slam to give the Cougars their final 7-5 advantage.
Junior Tracie Adix (5-2) threw the complete game for the Blue Demons. The junior gave up 12 hits and seven earned runs while striking out five and walking two.
BYU's Daniella Urincho (6-2) took the win for the Cougars and gave up four hits and two earned runs.
