Huitink Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- DePaul senior left handed pitcher Megan Huitink was tabbed the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, while USF sophomore Britta Giddens was named the league's Player of the Week.

Huitink finished the week with a 2-0 record, including a win over No. 8 Texas on March 15. DePaul’s 2-1 win over the Longhorns is the team’s first over a top-10 opponent this season and the program’s first since 2005. Last week the senior threw 11.1 innings and scattered six hits while giving up just one earned run.  Huitink improves her season record to 5-1 and has won her last three outings. 

Giddens led USF with a .478 batting average, 11 hits, five runs, five RBI’s, four walks, two stolen bases and a .552 on-base percentage. 

DePaul is 16-6 and sits at the top of the BIG EAST standings with a .727 overall winning percentage. USF ranks second as the Bulls hold a 24-14 record and a .632 overall winning percentage.

The Blue Demons travel to Bloomington, Illinois on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game with Illinois State.  DePaul opens BIG EAST play this weekend, hosting Seton Hall and St. John's on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
