PROVIDENCE, R.I.-DePaul defeated two ranked teams on its way to a 5-0 record and the UNLV Invitational title last week. The Blue Demons topped No. 18/18
Cal 2-1, No. 23 Nebraska 2-0,
Fresno State 1-0 in eight innings,
Southern Utah 5-2 and host UNLV 8-6 in 11 innings.
Kate Sheaks led the Blue Demons at the plate, registering a team-high .438 batting average on the week. She hit a game-changing three-run home run against UNLV and registered key hits against No. 18 Cal, No. 23 Nebraska and Fresno State. Sheaks closed the tournament with seven hits and five RBI. The senior also led DePaul with a .688 slugging percentage and a .526 on base percentage.
Tracie Adix earned the conference’s Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after picking up wins over No. 18 Cal and Fresno State and threw a season-high nine innings against UNLV. Adix gave up just one hit in her complete game shutout over Fresno State and no-hit Cal in her 2.1 innings in the circle. The senior gave up just 10-hits, walked seven batters and recorded 1.09 ERA on the week.
The Blue Demons (12-5) look to build on their six-game winning streak when they travel to Fullerton, California for the Judi Garman Classic, March 15-18. The Blue Demons face Texas, Penn State and Cal State Fullerton in round-robin action before championship play begins Saturday.
