CHICAGO DePaul women’s basketball coach Doug Bruno announced today that Bart Brooks has been promoted to assistant coach. Brooks joined the women’s basketball program last season as director of basketball operations.
“Bart Brooks, in his role as director of basketball operations, did an unbelievable job for DePaul women’s basketball this season,” said Bruno. “Bart demonstrated exceptional energy, work ethic, enthusiasm and a constant desire to go the extra mile.’ Add to these contagious intangibles Bart’s overall knowledge of the game and ability to teach, and the decision to promote him to full assistant coach became a no-brainer.”
Brooks assisted Bruno and his staff last season as the Blue Demons made their fifth straight NCAA Championship appearance. In his newest role, he will assist in all phases of the women’s basketball program including recruiting, player development and film breakdown.
“I’m very grateful and honored to have the opportunity to work with Coach Bruno and his staff as an assistant coach,” said Brooks. “DePaul is a special place, and I’m very excited to work alongside an outstanding group of administrators, coaches and players.”
Prior to DePaul, Brooks spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. The 2004 graduate of the University of Wyoming served as a student intern with the women’s basketball program while assisting with practice, films and scouting.
He started his collegiate career at Dickinson State University in Dickinson, N.D., and played two seasons for the Blue Hawks. In those two years, Dickinson State captured a pair of Dakota Athletic Conference titles and NAIA Sweet Sixteen appearances. The 2000 squad advance one step further with an Elite Eight showing.
