Trailing his opponent 2-down at the turn, Blenkush fought back and leveled the score on the 14th hole. The two golfers stayed even through the remainder of the course and required a par five playoff hole for the tournament crown. Blenkush reached the green in two shots and two-putted for a birdie to win the title as Rudquist made par.
The tournament opened with two rounds of stroke play to narrow the field of more than 150 golfers down to the top 64. Blenkush carded rounds of 72 and 69 on the par 71 course to earn a tie for 20th and a bid for match play.
The first round of match play saw Blenkush post five birdies in the first seven holes to defeat Cameron Fenrich, 5 and 4. The Blue Demon junior used a pair of eagles in the next round to defeat Lee Cavanagh, 1-up. In the third match, Blenkush was 3-down to Nic Wagner at the turn before he took the first six holes on the back nine and picked up a 3 and 2 win.
Blenkush defeated Taylor Cavanagh, 2 and 1, in the quarterfinals and topped Ben Freeman, 3 and 2, in the semifinals. At the conclusion of the 16-hole semifinal match, Blenkush was an impressive nine-under-par.
