Golf Ties for Fifth at Mid-Pines Intercollegiate

PINEHURST, N.C. Junior Cory Blenkush finished three-under-par and earned a tie for seventh place as the DePaul men’s golf team finished the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Blue Demons tied host Boston College for fifth place among 13 teams following the two-day tournament at Mid-Pines Golf Club.
Blenkush opened the tournament on Monday with rounds of 72 and 70 and closed out his performance with a final round of 71 on Tuesday. His 54-hole total of 213 marks his personal-best in a Blue Demon uniform and earned a three-way tie for seventh place with Michael Mulieri and Chris Derby of Loyola-Maryland.
Senior Matthew McMahon carded a final round of 69 on Tuesday to follow rounds of 71 and 76 from Monday. He tied four other golfers for 13th and finished the tournament with an even-par score of 216.
Sophomore Greg Doherty earned a three-way tie for 31st after shooting 72-72-77 for a total of 221. Sophomore Charles Boucher and senior Michael Gammon both posted three-round scores of 226 and tied for 50th. Senior Will Cumberland tied for 56th with a total score of 228, while sophomore Paul Watt took 73rd with a score of 238.
DePaul combined for a score of 874 and finished ahead of Binghamton, Belmont, William and Mary, Marshall, Army, South Dakota State and Towson. East Carolina won the team crown with a combined score of 842, while Eric Onesi of Old Dominion took the individual title with a 15-under-par score of 201.
The Blue Demons return to action October 1-2 as they host the annual John Dallio Memorial Tournament at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Illinois.
