CHICAGO DePaul women's basketball Doug Bruno announced today that Tracy Buchholz has joined the program as Director of Basketball Operations. Buchholz comes to DePaul from Lewis University where she was an assistant coach with the Flyers.
"When Lewis University named Tracy Buchholz their interim head coach this past summer, the reasons were obvious," said Bruno. "Tracy is a talented, organized and hard working young coach that has a great temperament for the game and an even greater temperament for people."
“While anyone can look good in an interview, I have a philosophy that all of life is an interview. The best interviews take place when a person does not know that she/he is being interviewed. Tracy was one of our best interviewees as she displayed her talents working at our camps," continued Bruno. "When I watched what Tracy did at camp and then added her experience as a full-time assistant coach on the collegiate level, I knew that DePaul women’s basketball was getting a person at the Director of Basketball Operations position far more experienced than the norm for this position.”
Following her four-year career as a student-athlete at Lewis, Buchholz was an assistant coach at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich. She helped guide the team to a 29-5 record. Davenport won the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament and advanced to the NAIA national tournament.
Buchholz returned to her alma mater prior to the start of the 2006-07 season. With the Flyers she handled all aspects of the program and helped the team to a 28-4 record. She served as interim head coach after Lynn Plett left the program following the season. Lewis advanced to the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional semifinal before falling to Drury University.
A 2004 graduate of Lewis, Buchholz finished her playing career ranked among all-time leaders in free throw percentage, three-point field goals, three-point field goal percentage and career scoring. She played in 108 games with 164 career three-pointers. Off the court, she was a Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior and picked up Academic All-GLVC honors four times.
“In addition to experience and a high energy level, Tracy also has proved to be an excellent teammate and team player," said Bruno. "Tracy will help create an excellent coaching staff chemistry. Team chemistry starts with coaching staff chemistry and Tracy will make for a high-octane chemist.”
