CHICAGO - The DePaul Blue Demons plays their lone home game in a four-game stretch as they host Louisville on Sunday at McGrath Arena. Sunday’s game is Think Pink Day as DePaul joins the WBCA in promoting breast cancer awareness. Everyone at the game will be receiving a pink t-shirt while the Blue Demon bench will feature various forms of pink from shoelaces to Doug Bruno’s shoes. In addition, fans will have multiple opportunities to make donations to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
Louisville is 15-7 overall and 4-5 in BIG EAST play while DePaul enters the game with a 16-6 overall record and 5-4 mark in league action. The Blue Demons are ranked No. 25 both of this week’s AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls.
Following Sunday’s action, the Blue Demons travel to West Virginia on Feb. 16. That game is followed by a trip to Washington, D.C., for a Feb. 20 game at Georgetown. Four of DePaul’s seven remaining regular-season games are away from Chicago. After the Cardinals, the Blue Demons host Notre Dame on Feb. 24 and Connecticut on Mar. 1 to complete the home schedule.
Noting the Blue Demons: In the last 11 games, the Blue Demons are 152-for-206 (.738) from the free throw line... DePaul started the season with a team .604 (113-187) free throw percentage in the first 11 games... the back-to-back losses to Tennessee and Pittsburgh marked just the fourth occurrence in eight seasons at McGrath Arena the Blue Demons lost consecutive home games... DePaul’s 10-game winning streak to start the season was the seventh winning streak of at least 10 games in program history... the Blue Demons have also put together at least one 10-game winning streak in four of the last five campaigns... the 90-58 win at Northern Illinois on Dec. 17 was the 950th game in program history... with a school-record 250 three-pointers in 2006-07, DePaul has made at least 200 three’s in a season in eight straight years... the 2002-03 squad held the previous program record with 233 three’s in a season... since the start of the 2003-04 season (149 games), the Blue Demons have held 64.4 percent of their opponents to less than 70 points (96-of-149)... in that span, DePaul is 85-11 (.885) when holding opponents to less than 70 points... in 2007-08, the Blue Demons are 4-4 when allowing more than 70 points and 12-2 when holding the opposition to less than 70... in the last three-plus seasons, the Blue Demons are 88-31 (.739)... in the last 42 home games against conference opponents, DePaul has posted 37 victories... over the last seven-plus seasons (242 games), DePaul has scored at least 80 points in 89 games... the Blue Demons hold an 84-5 (.944) record in those games... in 34 seasons of play at DePaul, the women’s basketball program is 605-358 (.628)... with two games in each of its two BIG EAST Tournaments, DePaul is just one of four teams to play in multiple conference tourney games... Connecticut, Rutgers and Pittsburgh have also played at least two games in each of the last two BIG EAST Championships.
It Could Happen: Missy Mitidiero needs three three-pointers to move into 11th all-time... Sunday’s game will be No. 120 for Allie Quigley and Caprice Smith moving them into a tie for 11th in school history... Quigley needs 26 points for 1,900 in her career... Smith needs five rebounds to move into ninth all-time.
Demon Doings: Notes following the 78-73 loss at USF on Feb. 5:
- Allie Quigley reached double-figures for the 100th time in her career... she registered her third career (second this season) 30-point game... Quigley also started her 110th consecutive game.
- DePaul is 4-4 when allowing 70 or more points and 6-2 on the road this season.
- The loss was the first in 11 games this season when DePaul’s bench outscores the opponent’s bench.
- The game marked just the second time with less than three players in double-figures.
- DePaul’s last two opponents have combined for 21 three-pointers.
- The Blue Demons lead the series, 10-5, but have dropped their last two visits to the Sun Dome.
Academic All-District Honors Again: DePaul senior Allie Quigley was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V first team for the second straight year. It’s also her third overall appearance on the district list as she was a second team honoree as a sophomore. As a member of the five-player first team for District V, she is eligible for the Academic All-America recognition.
Quigley was joined on the Academic All-District first team by Laura Rudolphi of Indiana State, Lori Bjork of Illinois and Minnesota’s Leslie Knight and Emily Fox. District V consists of schools from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, and Ontario and Manitoba in Canada. The senior guard holds a 3.72 grade-point average and is a Physical Education major at DePaul.
Streaking: Dating back to last season and in some cases, the last couple of seasons, the Blue Demons have put together various streaks. Listed below are some current active streaks heading into Sunday’s game against Louisville:
- 96 consecutive games with a three-pointer
- 30 straight wins against opponents from Illinois, 43 of the last 44, and 51 wins in the last 53 games
- five straight NCAA Championship appearances
- 110 consecutive starts for Allie Quigley
- 32 games in-a-row scoring in double-figures for Allie Quigley
TV Time: The BIG EAST Conference totals a league-record 101 combined appearances this season featuring each of the league’s 16 programs. For the second straight year every game of the league tournament will be televised and the CSTV “Game of the Week” package will single out the BIG EAST as the nation’s only conference with a weekly women’s basketball night on CSTV. DePaul is scheduled to make at least eight regular-season television appearances that started on Jan. 2 against defending NCAA Champion Tennessee on ESPNU. The Blue Demons were also seen on ESPNU in a game against Pittsburgh on Jan. 6 and will be featured on Feb. 24 against Notre Dame. The BIG EAST TV Network carried the Jan. 19 game at Marquette while the Jan. 22 game at Notre Dame was on CSTV. Louisville visits McGrath Arena on Feb. 10 for an ESPN2-televised game. While the final home game of the regular season against Connecticut will be seen on CLTV in Chicago with the CPTV (Connecticut Public Television) feed. West Virginia Public Broadcasting announced a nine-game television package with the DePaul-West Virginia game in Morgantown on Feb. 16 on WV PBS.
