CHICAGO Marcy Wilus knocked in the game-winning run in the eighth inning to propel No. 23 DePaul past Loyola-Chicago, 1-0 Wednesday at Cacciatore Stadium. The Blue Demons have won their last four games and improve to 35-14, while the Ramblers slide to 15-18.
Both teams put runners in scoring position earlier in the game, but neither was able to string together back-to-back hits as DePaul starter Becca Heteniak and Loyola's Amy Solava were both solid in the circle.
Heteniak (20-6) gave up just two hits, struck out 11 and walked two in her 20th complete game of the season. Solava, who also threw a complete game, scattered six hits, walked four and struck out five.
Down to the final out of the eighth inning, Sean Plese reached on an error which set the stage for Wilus' game-winner. The senior first baseman roped a double into the gap in left center which scored a speedy Plese from first.
DePaul's Sandy Vojik led all players with a 2-for-3 effort.
The Blue Demons return to action on Thursday when they host UIC in Lincoln Park. The first pitch at Cacciatore Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m.
