Golf Tied for 11th Place at ASU Indian Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. The DePaul men’s golf team holds a tie for 11th place following Monday’s first and second rounds of the Arkansas State Indian Classic. Junior Cory Blenkush leads the Blue Demons with a score of 140 entering Tuesday’s final round at Sage Meadows Golf Club.
Blenkush opened Monday’s competition with a round of 71 before he followed with five birdies during a second round of 69. He sits four shots under par and five shots off the lead in a six-way tie for 24th place.
Senior Matthew McMahon and junior Nick Martin share 40th place with eight other golfers after both Blue Demons posted identical 36-hole totals of 143. McMahon and Martin opened the tournament with first-round scores of 73 and followed with second-round scores of 70.
Sophomore Greg Doherty rests in a six-way tie for 50th place after shooting rounds of 71 and 73 for an even-par score of 144. Senior Will Cumberland enters the final 18 holes in a tie for 85th place with a two-round score of 151. Freshman Charles Boucher competes as an individual and holds a tie for 75th place with a score of 148.
New Orleans leads the field of 16 teams with a combined score of 552, while Austin Peay Follows in second place with a total of 554. The Blue Demons carry a six-under-par score of 570 as they sit even with Northern Iowa.
Tyler Hitchcock of South Florida, Tyler Thompson of Arkansas State, Luke Sherrod of Austin Peay and Grant Leaver of Austin Peay hold a tie for first place among 93 individuals with identical scores of 135.
Tuesday’s final round gets underway with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. (CST).
