DePaul Pounds Fairfield in Lopsided Victory

FORT MEYERS, Fla. -- The No. 13/13 DePaul softball team powered past Fairfield 19-2 in five innings, Sunday at the FGCU Spring Break Invitational.  The Blue Demons close out the tournament with a 10 a.m. game with Bethune-Cookman this morning.

The Blue Demons (8-2) scored all their runs by keeping the ball in the ballpark, Amber Patton and Samantha Morgan each hit doubles, while Sarah Shizas, Lynsey Ciezki and Sean Plese all recorded their first collegiate triple. Plese led DePaul with three RBI while Shizas, Cieski and Morgan each added two RBI.

DePaul posted 14 runs and batted through the order twice in the second inning. The Blue Demons tallied a season-high 11 hits in the innings and capitalized on three Fairfield errors.  

DePaul added a pair of runs in the fourth on Morgan’s double while its final three runs came in the fifth.   

Fairfield’s two runs came in the bottom of the fourth. Meghan Borst doubled and later scored on a groundout.

Lindsey Dean (5-0) stayed perfect in the circle and scattered just four hits in the victory for DePaul.  She struck out four and walked one.

Sarah Mincie (1-2) suffered the loss for Fairfield. She threw 1.2 innings before being replaced by Meghan Borst the pair struck out four and walked three.
