Softball Finishes FGCU Tournament with a Win over Bethune-Cookman

FORT MYERS, Fla. The No. 13/13 DePaul softball team finished the FGCU Spring Break Invitational with a 10-2 five-inning victory over Bethune-Cookman on Sunday.
Amber Patton led the Blue Demons (9-2) with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate and added two RBI. Jackie Tarulli-Fisher capped off her weekend with five RBI, including a three-run home run.
Playing through two scoreless innings Bethune-Cookman (4-11) struck first and posted two runs in the third. After taking advantage of a Blue Demon error to score their first run, the Lady Wildcats added their final run of the ballgame on Cesley Tafoya's RBI single up the middle.
DePaul responded in the bottom portion of the third and knotted the game two. Tarulli-Fisher registered her first RBI of the game on groundout and Annie Demas followed with a RBI single to left.
Tarulli-Fisher came through again in the fourth with a two-RBI double to left center. Earlier in the inning Sean Plese, who went 3-for-3, knocked in a run with a bunt single.
Up 5-2, DePaul used a pair of home runs and Patton’s two-RBI single to plate its final runs of the game. Marla Mathews had a solo shot, while Tarulli-Fishers fourth home run of the season sailed over the left center field wall.
Becca Heteniak (4-2) picked up with win for DePaul. She scattered just three hits, while both Bethune-Cookman’s runs were unearned. The junior right handed pitcher struck out three and walked two.
Allison Garcia (2-6) suffered the loss for Lady Wildcats.
The Blue Demons went 5-1 at the FGCU Spring Break Invitational and out scored their opponents 60-15. Patton led DePaul with 15 hits for a .682 average, while Tarulli-Fisher totaled 13 RBI on the weekend.
The Blue Demons return to the diamond next weekend in Columbus, Ga. DePaul takes on Penn State, Georgia, Louisiana-Lafayette, Virignia Tech and LSU at the NFCA Lead Off Classic Feb. 27-Mar 1.
