DePaul Slips to Ninth on Day Two

DADE CITY, Fla. The DePaul golf team totaled a score of 301 in the second round of the BIG EAST Championship to slip to ninth place on Monday. Heading into the final round on Tuesday, Nick Martin and Greg Doherty lead the team in a tie for 23rd.
The 301 followed a team score of 297 in the first round to put DePaul at 598 (+22) for the tournament. Louisville leads the team leaderboard with a combined score of 568 (-8) while Marquette is second with a three-over total of 579.
Michael Furci fired the best round of the day for DePaul with a one-over 73 on Monday. He was followed by Martin and Doherty. Martin followed his opening round of 73 with a 75 in the second round for a four-over total of 148. Doherty’s 148 saw his even-par 72 in the first round pared with a 76 on Tuesday.
Ben Westley is in a group at 37th with an eight-over, two-round total of 152 while Furci is tied for 41st at 154 (+10). Westley shot a 73 on Monday before a 79 on Tuesday and is tied for fourth in the tournament with 24 pars. Furci’s 73 followed an opening round of 81. Cory Blenkush sits in a tie for 48th with rounds of 79 and 77 for a two-day total of 156 (+12).
Louisville’s Adam Hadwin and Marquette’s Mike Van Sickle lead the field with one round to play. Van Sickle shot a 67 on Monday for the best round of the day and the two players sit at the top of the leaderboard with scores of 140 (-4).
The third and final round is set for an 8 a.m. ET start on Tuesday at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. DePaul could make a move in the team standings as just five strokes separate the Blue Demons from seventh-place Georgetown.
