Men's Golf Announces 2009-10 Schedule

CHICAGO - DePaul men's golf coach Betty Kaufmann announced today the 2009-10 schedule that opens on Sept. 21 in Rhode Island before the Blue Demons host the annual John Dallio Memorial at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club on Sept. 27-28.
The five-tournament fall portion of the season opens at the Adams Cup of Newport hosted by Rhode Island. The two-day event takes place at Newport National Golf Club on Sept. 21 and 22.
"This schedule is going to challenge us all year. It is very competitive and will test all our young players," said Kaufmann. "The Spring schedule is the one of the most demanding schedules we have had and should prepare us for the conference championship."
DePaul hosts the John Dallio Memorial, Sept. 27-28, at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Ill. The annual event is named after for DePaul golfer John Dallio who lost his courageous battle with glioblastoma, a deadly brain tumor on Oct. 6, 2003. A member of the Blue Demons from 1997-2001, Dallio earned a degree from DePaul in Finance and worked in the Blue Demon athletic department for two years.
The fall slate continues with three tournaments in October. The first action of the month has the Blue Demons at the Oasis Golf Club for the Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati from Oct. 5-6. Two weeks later, DePaul plays in the Georgetown Intercollegiate in Beallsville, Md. at the Members Club at Four Stream. The team closes the fall slate with the BIG EAST Match Play over three days from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
The Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate opens a busy spring schedule that sees six events before the BIG EAST Championship. Francis Marion is the host of the Wexford Intercollegiate at Wexford Plantation Golf Course in Hilton Head, S.C. from Feb. 22-23.
The three-day USF Invitational takes place Mar. 5-7 at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla., before DePaul heads to Williamsburg, Va., for the C&F Bank Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament at Kingsmill Resort is hosted by William and Mary, Mar. 22 and 23. The month of March concludes on the final weekend of the calendar at Sultans Run Golf Club in Jasper, Ind. for the BSU Cardinal Collegiate hosted by Ball State.
Two tournaments in April get the Blue Demons tuned up for the BIG EAST Championship starting with the adidas Hoosier Invitational the IU Championships Golf Course, April 3-4, in Bloomington, Ind. DePaul heads south to the RidgePoint Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark. for the Red Wolf Classic on April 12 and 13.
The BIG EAST Championship is scheduled for three rounds April 18-20 at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla. A year ago, the Blue Demons finished seventh at the BIG EAST Championship.
DePaul returns eight players from last season's squad led by Greg Doherty. Doherty led the 2008-09 team with a 73.57 average that included four top 10 finishes. Michael Furci - currently playing in the U.S. Amateur - posted a 75.73 average last year as a freshman.
