Golf Begins 2009-10 Campaign in Rhode Island

CHICAGO - The Blue Demons open the 2009-10 season in Rhode Island at the Adams Cup of Newport. The University of Rhode Island is the host of the two-day, three-round tournament at Newport National GC. The 16th annual event features 18 teams from 11 different conferences.
The Orchard Course at Newport National GC - from the championship tees - is a par-72, 7,244-yard course designed by legendary course architect Arthur Hills.
The 18 teams competing the 2009 Adams Cup are: Brown, Bryant, Central Florida, Connecticut, DePaul, Francis Marion, Furman, Hartford, Georgia Southern, New Mexico, Ohio State, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's, Southern Methodist, Southern Mississippi, Temple, URI "Blue" and William & Mary.
DePaul's lineup for this week's action is Greg Doherty, Michael Furci, Charles Boucher, Russell Budd and John Pavelko.
DePaul hosts John Dallio Memorial: Following this week's trip to Rhode Island, DePaul hosts the John Dallio Memorial on Sept. 27 and 28. The tournament features two rounds on Sunday followed by 18 holes on Monday. Joining the Blue Demons at their home course in Lemont, Ill. are: Bradley, Dayton, Detroit, Drake, Eastern Illinois, George Washington, Georgetown, Loyola-Chicago, Loyola (Md.), Northern Iowa, Nova Southeastern, USF, Southern Illinois, Western Illinois and Wright State. Live scoring will be available for the tournament at www.golfstat.com.
A year ago, Southern Illinois edged Nova Southeastern in tie-breaker to win the team title while Georgetown's Brian Dorfman won individual honors. DePaul placed sixth in the team standings with Greg Doherty holding the top finish for the Blue Demons in a tie for eighth.
The Fall Schedule: After the Adams Cup and John Dallio Memorial, the Blue Demons play in three more events during the fall portion of the 2009-10 schedule. DePaul travels to Cincinnati for the Xavier Invitational, Oct. 5-6, before the Georgetown Intercollegiate, Oct. 19-20. The BIG EAST Match Play in Southern Pines, N.C. concludes the fall schedule, Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
