Heteniak Recognized Among Nation's Top Softball Players

CHICAGO - DePaul softball ace Becca Heteniak has been selected for the "Watch List" for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award for the third year in a row.
The 50 players selected for the preseason Watch List that was announced on Wednesday come from 35 different schools and 14 different NCAA Division I conferences across the country.
There were 27 seniors, 17 juniors and six sophomores on the list. The Amateur Softball Association will announce the 25 finalists on April 7.
Heteniak is a two-time All-American and two-time BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year. The 5-foot, 11-inch senior right-hander was 26-9 last year with a 1.38 earned-run average and 252 strikeouts in 233.2 innings. She pitched 32 complete games with eight shutouts.
In the batter's box, Heteniak hit .338 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs in helping lead the Blue Demons to the BIG EAST regular-season title and the NCAA regional finals.
Past winners of the National Collegiate Player of the Year Award include DePaul assistant coach Cat Osterman, who won the award three times while pitching at Texas.
Ex-DePaul All-American Amber Patton was among the 10 finalists for the award last year.
