TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Blue Demons look to even their record in the first true road contest of the season Wednesday night at Indiana State. DePaul enters the game at 3-4 overall following a pair of victories over Northern Illinois and Central Michigan last week.
The Blue Demons and Sycamores renew the series highlighted by the 1979 NCAA Final Four game that saw Larry Bird and Indiana State defeat Mark Aguirre and DePaul by a 76-74 score. Wednesday's game is the 13th meeting in the series with the 1979 defeat serving as the only loss for the Blue Demons in the series.
All of the action can be heard on WSCR "The Score " 670 AM in Chicagoland with Zach Zaidman (play-by-play) and Laurence Holmes (analyst). Following the Indiana State game, the Blue Demons make their second appearance of the season at McGrath Arena on DePaul's Lincoln Park campus Saturday night against Ball State. Zaidman and Holmes are scheduled to call the action on "The Score" starting at 7:30 p.m. The game follows the DePaul-Northern Illinois women's game at 5 p.m.
Noting the Blue Demons: The men's basketball program is 1,368-841 (.619) all-time... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 524 straight games... DePaul's last game without a three was Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena... DePaul is 3-0 all-time in games at McGrath Arena... the Blue Demons host Ball State at McGrath Arena on Dec. 11... the Nov. 16 game against Western Carolina was the 425th for DePaul at Allstate Arena... the Blue Demons are 304-123 (.712) all-time in Rosemont.
It Could Happen: A three-pointer extends DePaul's streak to 525 consecutive games with at least one trifecta... a win would be No. 398 for head coach Oliver Purnell... a win would improve DePaul's record to 98-30 all-time against the Missouri Valley Conference... a win would snap a 22-game losing streak in regular-season road games... DePaul's last regular-season road win was Nov. 22, 2008 at Illinois-Chicago by a 67-63 score.
Opponent No. 8 - Indiana State Sycamores: Indiana State enters Wednesday's action at 3-5 following an 81-51 loss at Wyoming on Dec. 4... the Sycamores have dropped two straight to Wyoming and Notre Dame (L, 81-72) following consecutive wins over Oral Roberts (W, 74-69) and Buffalo (W, 58-54)... Dwayne Lathan leads three players in double-figures with 13.5 points per game... Jake Kelly adds 12.8 points per outing and Carl Richard holds a 10.3 scoring average... Richard also leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per game... head coach Greg Lansing is in his first season at Indiana State.
The Series: Wednesday is the 13th all-time meeting between the two programs... DePaul holds an 11-1 advantage in the series... Indiana State won the biggest game of the series with a 76-74 win over DePaul in the 1979 Final Four in Salt Lake City... the Blue Demons have won all three meetings at Indiana State.
The Last Meeting: DePaul held off Indiana State, 75-70, at Allstate Arena on Nov. 29, 2008... the Blue Demons rolled to a 23-point lead in the first half then watched in the second half as it shrunk to as little as two... Indiana State jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and then DePaul answered with a 19-2 run and kept building from there growing the lead to as much as 23 at 32-9 and 36-13 with 3:18 to play before halftime... the Sycamores came roaring out of the locker room in the second period, cutting the lead down to six in just over six minutes of action... Indiana State was able to whittle the advantage to as little as two at 68-66 with 1:01 to play... Dar Tucker led DePaul with 26 points and Jeremiah Kelly added 11... Aaron Carter had 19 points to lead Indiana State.
1979 Final Four Meeting: Larry Bird led the Indiana State Sycamores over Mark Aguirre and the DePaul Blue Demons by a 76-74 score on Mar. 24, 1979... the Sycamores advanced to the national championship game before falling to Michigan State while DePaul defeated Penn in the third-place game.
Against the Missouri Valley: DePaul is 97-30 all-time against teams from the Missouri Valley Conference... the Blue Demons have faced Bradley the most and hold a 25-13 advantage in that series... DePaul's last MVC opponent was Creighton at the Las Vegas Classic on Dec. 23, 2008... the Bluejays posted an 83-75 win over the Blue Demons.

- Brandon Young is the fourth player in DePaul history to go perfect from three-point range... his 6-for-6 game against Central Michigan joins Draelon Burns (8-8 vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Nov. 28, 2008), Will Walker (5-5 vs. Seton Hall, Feb. 23, 2008) and Bobby Simmons (5-5 vs. Saint Louis, Jan. 31, 2001)... the six three-pointers are also tied for sixth on the single game list (10th time, last Will Walker vs. Providence, Mar. 11, 2009).
- Young reached double-figures for the seventh time in as many collegiate games... he is the first freshman since Lance Williams in the 1998-99 season to start collegiate career with seven straight games in double-figures... Williams opened his DePaul career with nine straight games in double-figures.
- Young's 31 points are the most by a DePaul freshman since Quentin Richardson scored 31 against California Nov. 28, 1998... DePaul's freshman game scoring record is Mark Aguirre with 45 points against Loyola-Chicago on Mar. 5, 1979.
- Young is the first DePaul freshman since Dar Tucker in the 2007-08 season with at least 20 points in a game... Tucker recorded five 20-point games during his freshman campaign.
- DePaul extended its streak to 524 consecutive games with a three-pointer.
- Jeremiah Kelly played in his 70th career game... Krys Faber played in his 65th career game... Tony Freeland made his 10th career start.
- The win was No. 397 for Oliver Purnell... he is 397-280 in his 23rd season as a head coach.
- DePaul is 76-33 all-time against Mid-American Conference opponents... the Blue Demons are 2-0 this season... DePaul hosts Ball State at McGrath Arena on Dec. 11.

Young Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week: Brandon Young was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week by the league office on Dec. 6. He is the third Blue Demon to earn the league's Rookie of the Week recognition joining Wilson Chandler (twice in 2005-06) and Dar Tucker (once in 2007-08).
He started the week by scoring all 17 points in the second half against Northern Illinois on Dec. 2. The freshman went 7-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
Young put together one of the top games in school history by a freshman on Dec. 5 against Central Michigan. The Baltimore native totaled 31 points by going 9-for-11 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the three-point line. He also knocked down 7-of-10 free throws and added two rebounds and two steals.
Young is the fourth player - and the only freshman - in DePaul history to go perfect from three-point range (min. five attempts). Georgetown's Chris Wright was selected as the Player of the Week while the Honor Roll consisted of Connecticut's Kemba Walker, Chris Otule of Marquette, Marshon Brooks from Providence, Syracuse's Rick Jackson and Casey Mitchell from West Virginia.
Cleveland Blocks: DePaul freshman Cleveland Melvin made his presence felt against Central Michigan on Dec. 5 by recording five blocked shots. His total is the highest for a DePaul player since Devin Hill tallied five rejections against UIC on Dec. 13, 2009 and one shy of moving into a tie for sixth on DePaul's game blocked shots list. Melvin leads the Blue Demons with 12 blocked shots in seven games this season and his 1.7 blocks per game is tied for 11th in the BIG EAST through Monday's games.
