Deirdre Naughton Named Preseason All-American by Sporting News

CHICAGO - DePaul senior guard Deirdre Naughton was named a second-team preseason All-American by Sporting News Magazine in its 2010-11 College Basketball edition.
Naughton was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA after missing the 2009-10 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee. Prior to the injury on Nov 24, Naughton was averaging 14.2 points per game and had a pair of 20-plus scoring performances in her five games last season.
In 2009-10, Naughton garnered all sorts of preseason accolades including preseason Wade Watch, John R. Wood and Naismith Watch Lists. The senior was also named a preseason All-BIG EAST selection and was a Sporting News preseason third-team All-American selection.
Naughton, who played her freshman season at Wake Forest, enters the 2010-11 season with 1,470 career points while the senior averages 15.0 points per outing. She averages 4.14 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game since coming to DePaul in 2007-08.
DePaul opens the season Nov. 12 against Valparaiso. The Blue Demons and Crusaders tip at 7 p.m. in Lincoln Park.
