Men's Tennis Hosts a Doubleheader Dual

CHICAGO - The DePaul men's tennis team opens its 2011spring season by hosting Detroit-Mercy and UIC on Saturday at the Lakeshore Athletic Club. The doubleheader dual begins at 2 p.m. when the Blue Demons clash with the Titans before the Flames heat up the courts at 6 p.m.
The Blue Demons are coming off a successful fall campaign which saw its doubles pairs post an overall 22-9 mark. The doubles season was highlighted by the duo of Bartosz Jozwiak and Sven Kasper knocking off the then-No. 33 pair from Illinois, Stephen Hoh and Connor Roth in the opening round of the ITA Midwest Regional.
Jozwiak and Kasper finished their fall campaign with a 10-3 mark while George Chanturia and Matija Palinic posted an impressive 6-1 record.
Chanturia and Palinic started the season by winning the Purdue Fall Invitational B doubles title and advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Midwest Regional before falling to the Ohio State pair of Balazs Novak and Devin McCarthy, who are currently ranked No. 25 in the Campbell's/ITA doubles rankings.
In singles action, Jozwiak posted a 7-5 mark while Chanturia and Palinic each tallied six victories. Along with his doubles tile with Palinic, Chanturia also claimed the B singles championship at the Northwestern Invitational.
With the first weekend in the books, the Blue Demons head to Albuquerque, NM for duals at New Mexico and against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. DePaul tangles with New Mexico on Jan. 21 and TAMCC on Jan. 22.
