CHICAGO - Katherine Harry scored 13 points and led the No. 16/23 DePaul women's basketball team to an impressive, 71-38 victory over Providence in BIG EAST Conference action at McGrath Arena on Wednesday.
Harry led a trio of Blue Demons in double-digits while all but one eligible player, scored points in DePaul's second BIG EAST win of the season. Sam Quigley was 5-of-6 from the field which included two 3-pointers, while Keisha Hampton added 11 in the win.
The Blue Demons were led on the glass by Hampton's eight rebounds, while Taylor Pikes and Deanna Ortiz each grabbed six boards. DePaul bested the Friars with a 39-31 rebounding advantage.
DePaul (14-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) opened the game by hitting seven of its first eight shots and jumped out to an early 16-2 lead with 12:32 to play in the first half. The Blue Demons were relentless on the glass in the opening seven plus minutes as they outrebounded the Friars, 8-1.
After Mi-Khida Hankins hit a pair of free throws with 17:38 on the clock, Providence could not find the basket. The Friars missed its first nine shots before Hankins made a layup with 11:26 and DePaul had already stretched its lead to 16-4.
The Blue Demons took their first 20-point advantage on a Hampton jumper with 7:31, while DePaul's largest lead of the first half, 38-14 came when Quigley found a streaking Anna Martin for a bucket in the paint.
DePaul held the Fiars to a season-low 18 first half points and took a 22 point advantage to the locker room behind a blistering .643 (18-of-28) field goal percentage.
Providence (7-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) opened the first 2:32 of the second half on a 6-1 run -- but the Blue Demons countered with a 19-6 run which gave DePaul a 60-30 advantage with 8:31 to play.
DePaul took its largest lead, 69-34 when Maureen Mulchrone found Harry just outside the key for jumper with just under three minutes to play.
Quigley paced the floor with five assists while the Blue Demons, who are averaging 19.9 assists per game, finished with 20.
DePaul hits the road for a BIG EAST game at St. John's on Saturday. The BIG EAST Network, "Game of the Week" tips at 3 p.m. (CST).
Notes: DePaul has scored 70 or more points in 13 of its 14 wins this season... DePaul has won its last 11 games at McGrath Arena dating back to its Feb. 23, 2010 win over Pittsburgh...
