Men's Tennis Finishes Illinois Pre-Qualifier Challenger

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The DePaul men's tennis team finished the Illinois Pre-Qualifier Challenger on Saturday at Illinois' Atkins Tennis Center. The tournament included players from Illinois, Louisville and Illinois State.
"These fall events are an opportunity to get match play and see where everyone is at each individually," Blue Demon head coach Matt Brothers said after his team finished the tournament. The Illinois Challenger Pre-Qualifier is the midpoint of DePaul's fall season before its traditional season begins in January.
The Blue Demons won six of their 14 matches while Sven Kasper highlighted the day with his win over BIG EAST Conference foe, Sumit-Prakash Gupta from Louisville 6-2, 6-0.
Sophomore Filip Daznko also tallied a signature win for DePaul when he topped Illinois State's Skip Span 7-6 (3), 6-1. Aaron Chaffee, Matija Palinic, Adam Reinhart and Mathias Hambach also tallied wins on Saturday.
"Today's matches provided us with some teaching opportunities for the guys," Brothers added. "Today showed us we are a long way from where we can and need to be to have the season we want to have.
"We need to improve in three areas - consistency of play, taking care of their bodies and competing harder."
"Hopefully we can do that heading into Regionals next week," Brothers concluded. DePaul heads to the ITA Midwest Regional, Oct. 13-17 in Columbus, Ohio.
