GREENVILLE, S.C. - Playing its first outdoor match of the season, the No. 66 DePaul men's tennis team enjoyed 60 degree temperatures as it topped Furman, 5-2 on Sunday at the Minor Herndon Mickel Tennis Center.
The Blue Demons needed some time to adapt to the outdoor elements as Furman won two of the three doubles matches and took an early 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
DePaul (7-3) made its adjustments and dominated on the singles court as four of its five victories came in straight sets. Sven Kasper evened the match at one with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Sawyer Duncan in the top position. Kasper is now 6-3 in the number one spot, while he improves to 11-9 on the season.
Bartosz Jozwiak and Filip Dzanko gave the Blue Demons some breathing room and a 3-1 advantage with wins on the fourth and fifth courts, respectively. Jozwiak tallied his 71st career singles win with his 6-2, 6-2 victory over Robbie Aru. Dzanko, who joined the team in January, tallied his fifth win and third consecutive when he overtook Joel Cook, 6-3, 6-4.
George Chanturia clinched DePaul's victory on the third court with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Andrew Mello.
The Blue Demons return to the Lakeshore Athletic Club and host Toledo on Feb. 18. The first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday.
