New Mexico Slips Past DePaul

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The No. 46 New Mexico men's tennis team came from behind to take a 4-3 dual from No. 52 DePaul in the consolation championship of the HEB Team Tennis Tournament on Saturday.
The Blue Demons (11-4) won the doubles points behind strong performances on the first and third courts. Sven Kasper and Bartosz Jozwiak avenged their Jan. 21 loss to the Lobos pair of Ben Dunbar and Conor Berg with an 8-6 victory. The pair, who is perfect on the weekend, improves to 18-8 on the season.
Ben Hartman and Filip Dzanko clinched the doubles point for DePaul with an 8-5 win over Carl Ho and Mathew Neeld on the third court.
George Chanturia gave DePaul a 2-0 advantage with a straight-set win over Phil Anderson in the third position.
New Mexico (10-3) got its first point with a win on the fifth court, before Matija Palinic gave the Blue Demons a 3-1 advantage with his win in the second position.
Palinic, who dropped the first set to Ben Dunbar, came from behind and won the final two sets to seal his 13th singles win of the season.
The Blue Demons were unable to close out the match as the Lobos won the final two singles matches.
DePaul returns to the Lakeshore Athletic Club and hosts Michigan State on Mar. 12 at 2 p.m.
Following the match, DePaul will celebrate Senior Day and honor the careers of Hartman and Jozwiak. As part of the celebration and fan appreciation, fans will receive pizza and wings at the conclusion doubles play.
