CHICAGO - DePaul was looking for a big bounce-back in the opener of Saturday's BIG EAST Conference doubleheader against St. John's.
The Blue Demons wanted to make amends for last Wednesday's double-header loss to Louisville at home, and they came away with a 12-2 victory in five innings over the Red Storm.
This was their first win in the new Cacciatore Stadium.
DePaul (18-10, 3-1 in the BIG EAST) didn't waste any time, coming out with an offense reminiscent of the White Sox on Opening Day.
The Blue Demons scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second and put up a five-spot in the third.
Katelyn Braget's two-run home run over the right-field fence highlighted the opening salvo in the first inning. Lynsey Ciezki had a two-run single in the second.
In the third, the Blue Demons sent 11 batters to the plate and Alex Morocco had a two-run single. Starting pitcher Kirsten Verdun wriggled out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam in the top of the first with a strikeout of Dominique Marcelino.
Lindsey Dean took over in the pitching circle for the final two innings.
DePaul went after a sweep in game two of the doubleheader.
