Men's Tennis Finishes Sun Belt Shootout in Second Place

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The No. 66 DePaul men's tennis team finished the Sun Belt Shootout in second place after a tough 4-3 loss to Denver in the tournament's championship dual. The Blue Demons slip to 14-8 and Denver improves to 7-12.
DePaul's first and third doubles teams secured a 1-0 lead -- both recording 8-3 victories in their respective matches. Sven Kasper and Bartosz Jozwiak topped Andrew Landwerlen and Jens Vorkefeld while Filip Dzanko and Mathias Hambach defeated Alex Clinkenbeard and Angel Alvarez.
Denver evened the score with a win on the third court before Bartosz Jozwiak won his third match of the week with a dominating 6-1, 6-2 win over Angel Alvarez in the sixth spot.
Denver won the next two matches -- taking the point on the fourth and first courts and leaving the second and fifth courts to decide the match.
DePaul's George Chanturia pulled out an exciting 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Yannick Weihs to knot the dual at three.
All eyes turned to fifth court where Clinkenbeard and Dzanko were trading points in third set. Clinkenbeard nipped the Blue Demon freshman in the tiebreak to secure the Denver victory.
The Blue Demons return to the courts on April 16 when they take on BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette in Milwaukee on April 16. The dual with the Golden Eagles is DePaul's final of the regular season before beginning the BIG EAST Championship, April 28-May 1.
